Ha ha ha they caught you napping and got you tucked into the moderator fold tongue.gif

My favourite combination is geranium and rose, but I also love the fruity oils, lime reminds me of chocolate limes so no good when on a diet banghead.gif

My least favourite oils are chammomile (makes me sick) and clary sage....trust me as it is 2 oils that would benefit me greatly bangin.gif

My favourites after much blending and practising vary. At the moment i love May Chang for its zingy get you through winter and remind you of summer kinda feeling. biggrin.gif

And Ylang ylang for its beauty, chilling properties and lets not forget its aphrodisiac qualities whistling.gif

I love blending oils for other people but sadly I do nt seem to be doing many aroma treatments at the moment (plenty of other treatments though thankfully.)

well from Glasgi there's always Rosslyn Chapel (just over an hour drive) one of my other choices was to up around Glasgow Port and then headed out into the country following the coast road.

And of course if you get up as far as GB's there is a lot of water and a good place to visit is Smoo Cave, it is a bit of a trek to get there and make sure you have a full tank as well but again lots of wonderful places to just pull over and explore

My fave is rosewood - prolly not very eco-friendly though blink.gif
I also adore the citrus oils blended with benzoin or sandalwood

I loathe Ylang ylang and geranium; they make me feel very nauseus and anxious; I guess I need to figure out why at some point.

I love May Chang, Lime, Lavender, Neroli (calms me down) Rose, use Geranium a lot mixed with Lavender sometimes, as not my favourite but supposed to be connected to the Angelic Realm angel.gif. Really dislike Chamomile.

H o S, have you tried Ho wood as an alternative to rosewood, i am led to beleive its sources are more sustainable. It smells very similar and properties are very close, i love it mixed with grapefruit for a happy blend.

Its interesting that the theme seems to be that chamomile and ylang ylang are the least liked. Ithink my nose must be changing (i used to heave at the smell of chamomile but can tolerate it now.)

This thread reminds me of my grandmothers and greatgrandmother - they all used lavendar and some other woody fragrances in their homes. I remember it always being 'just enough', that is, detectable not too heady. These are still my favourites along with Frankincense.

This kind of 'aromatherapy' seemed to go out of fashion for a long time. I only remember friends and my family using oils again in the nineties.

I feel this might have been part of the technology push... in the sixties onwards a lot of 'old wisdom', whether it be natural remedies and foods, green living, allotment gardening or aromatherapy, got left behind... but we are back with it with a vengeance... I bet our ancestors, looking down, are very pleased!

So true--just look at the threads going here now thumbup.gif

My all time fav is Lavendar.

Mum bought be a teddy bear for Christmas that contains Lavendar and wheatgerms. Heat him up in the microwave for 2 minutes and he keeps you warm and wafts Lavendar around for hours! Hubby accuses me of animal cruelty when I put Ted in the microwave though - he's getting as barmy as I am!

My other fav is Eucalyptus. I find it very comforting, like a big soft safety blanket.

For insence sticks though to make the house smell nice my favourite is Jasmine.

Can't stand Vanilla though - way too sickly! YUCK! I don't mind Ylang Ylang but it's not something I would get out the cabinet time and again like lavendar.

If you like coconut stuff, try going to the Body Shop. I've bought a whole range of coconut stuff! Bath Fizzy Bombs, lip balm, shower gel, body butter, body scrub it's heaven! I've smelt the sun tan lotion on holiday too! I can't find it either! Will let you know if I do!

Mmmm, my fave oils... hummm, this ones got me thinking. Cliff loves tea-tree and has a whole set of avon toiletries with tea tree in, as he finds it really good for his skin. I quite like the smell of that in a burner, as its nice and 'clean'. Like rose oil too - have expensive tastes... laugh.gif and I'm quite a fan of lime, as dea is, but it reminds me of food too much as well!

I also like Lavender, but Cliff finds it overpowering, so thats confined to my 'tam-time' baths, when I shut the door of a sunday, and run myself a bit of heaven. I tend to mix it with Patchouli, which is my Mums fave. I can understand why smile.gif

Just a quick thought I yeah i had to bangin.gif to get it I think the suntan lotion is actually a suntan oil by Banana Boat.

I know that we are talking about our fav's but has anyone have any ideas of an oil i can get for a friend who is having trouble sleeping hates the smell of lavender and chamomile. He is also very down as he has just ended his marriage so his mind is constantly working over time I have tried patcholi and may chang has anyone any other ideas?

Love and peace to all

Oh that's interesting Sal, I came across this oil listed in a catalogue the other week and I had never heard of it. Is it the same plant as Ho Leaf is extracted from? I think I might check it out - I love grapefruit too.

Chamomile is one of dd's favourites - she loves drinking the tea too smile.gif I'm not keen on it, but hubbie adores the smell of chamomile

I find benzoin great for those transient times - it is comforting and warming, perhaps mixed with something like sandalwood and lemon or even marjoram.

For your friend I would also suggest Bach flower remedies - perhaps Cherry Plum for over active mind if he feels it might go out of control, Sweet CHestnut if he really feels he can take no more (good for suicidal people), Pine for guilt, Agrimony if he hides behind a cheerful face, Gorse - hoplessness / despair, Honeysuckle - living in the past, Star of bethlehem for shock, White chestnut for unwanted thoughts, Willow - self pity and resentment...........I could go on; you get the picture - lots to choose from depending on the presenting symptoms biggrin.gif and they work powerfully, but subtley, so you don't feel you have been blown away by the effects.
I tend to think of BFRs and essential oils as very supportive.

Special (((HUGS))) to your friend

Just a thought for anyone that uses oils. When the bottle is empty or you cannot get the last drop out take off the stopper pour in mineral/spring water and decant into a spray bottle, top up with more water and use as a linen spray or air freshener.

empty amber bottles and atomisers are available very reasonably from aroma suppliers.

Thanks Rae for the reply sorry its taken so long to get back to you have been on hols do the family visiting thing before hubbie goes away for 3 months. I got my friend White Chestnut BFR but he has been a bad boy and hasnt been doing as his Aunty Linda tells him to lol. I shall try a blend of Benozin with Sandlewood very 'manly' smells so he should approve. ( He is very stubborn Tauren)
Thank you also for his special hugs he needs all the love in the world at the min.

Love and peace to you and yours hug.gif

I suppose I should reply to this thread seen as I am supposed to be the mod here!! He he

My fave blends are..............

Lemongrass, Geranium and Patchouli. Made some bubble bath with this in and this is divine...you don't want to get out of the bath smile.gif

Another fave for a massage oil to relieve aching muscles is Orange, Clove Bud and Black Pepper. Really warms you up and also has a pleasing side effect wink.gif whistling.gif Although if you make this up for yourselves, don't go overboard with the Clove Bud cause it can be toxic in large quantities, and make sure that it is Clove BUD and not Clove LEAF!!!

I love Basil, I use it in a burner when my head feels all fuzzy....(that's quite often LOL )

Not so keen on Chamomile myself as it is a strong smell, but I have started to get used to it, as it has done me some good. Blended with other oils it's not so bad.

Keep your recipe's coming smile.gif

I might pinch a few! whistling.gif

oooo lots of lovely blends! clap.gif
My fave at the mo is lavender, geranium and lemon in the bath. Smells really clean and scrummy.. can't bear lavender on its own but it adds a certain something in a blend. smile.gif

my pick me up morning blend is lemon, tea tree and clary sage. Nice and zingy!
I got a bit obsessed with bergamot a while back, drinking lots of Earl Grey tea even! blink.gif

Hey Sal,

That blend sounds nice smile.gif

Do you think it would be good for someone suffering from SAD? I have a client who gets SAD really bad, on top of being anxious and not able to sleep at night sad.gif

I made her some Rose, Neroli and Chamomile bubble bath up for before bed, and she says that is helping her sleep.

I also made some, Rosemary, Thyme and Grapefuit showergel for her to wake her up in the morning, but she never gets chance to get in the shower in the morning as there is always a queue!

Spritzing spray might be the answer smile.gif
