Hi there smile.gif

Has anyone seen the carolyne Myss archetype cards? I bought them a while ago and had a brief play this afternoon. Although they are not meant as divination or oracle cards I drew some cards at random - past, present, future - asking that they show me the archetypes that I have mostly closely resembled and will move towards in the future. Had a fantastic result - using the pictures more than the descriptions. I then asked what archetype I should mimic in order to reach a positive future - again - great result.

I've got a feeling they would be great for pastlife readings too.

the cards give the positive and "shadow" interpretation of the archetype - but again, it's the pictures that tell the real tale.

anyway - if you see them - take a look.

cheers. bye1.gif

Thanks for this September; they sound very interesting.

Are they linked with her 'Sacred Contracts' book?

Yep - they are.

there is a card for most of the archetypes in that list at the back of the book (some are rolled up into one card in the interests of making the deck smaller - it's still really big though).

She doesn't really suggest how to work with them in the little booklet that comes with them - I guess they can help you with the exercises in the book. I must admit I didn't make it all the way through the book - it's one of those books I really, really wanted to read - but when I got started I just couldn't - kept reading the same sentences over and over, losing the book etc. I'm a firm believer that there is a right time to read a book - so I figure I've just haven't got to it yet!

However - the cards just jumped off the shelf at me. If it helps - I'll post the exact questions I asked, with the answers etc. so you can see precisely how I used them - I've got a 6 year old trying to get my undivided attention at the moment. biggrin.gif

Thanks September - look forward to that.

I haven't gotten through the entire book either - found it too hard going, but I think I shall dip into it when the time is right and eventually get through it.

Hi hofS

Here's the reading I did in a bit more detail:

first question I asked was a simple past, present and future one - show me an archetype which "sums up" these areas of my life. I got:

Past:
CLOWN - Light attributes: fearlessly revealing emotion. Helping people laugh at absurdity and hypocrisy. Shadow attributes: using humour to wound raher than liberate. denial of emotional truth.

My interpretation: aspects of both the light and shadow ring true here - but the thing that really stood out was the picture of a jester type figure shedding tears behind a mask. the mask keeps coming to me again and again. I'm starting to understand how much I've been hiding behind lack of self-confidence over the past years - and how I've been acting out some of the roles in my life - denying the truth.

Present:
ATHLETE - Light attributes: dedication to transcending physical limits, including handicaps. Development of personal willpower and strength of spirit. shadow attributes: Misuse of athletic ability for selfish ends. false sense of invulnerability and entitlement.

My interpretation: Nothing here really rang true until my son saw the picture as he walked passed the table - a strongman - and said to me "is that card about Strength" (he's used to seeing the strength card in the tarot). as soon as he said it I understood. the strongman is holding up what looks like a rock or the world and around him swirls purply sky and stars. I finally feel at this time that I'm starting to get some control of my life - going with the punches - not fighting against them. and because of that, I feel more positive and feel more able to develop spiritually (the purply/starry sky).

future:
Healer - Light attributes: Passion to serve others by repairing the body, mind and spirit. ability to help transform pain into healing.
shadow attributes: taking advantage or those who need help. failing to care for oneself.

My interpretation: I am a fairly newly qualified reiki practitioner and intend to teach and give treatments as a full time occupation. I think the shadow attributes are warning me to think very carefully about how to price my services - as I've been struggling with this. also, I'm a card reader and want to offer these services specifically for healing - rather than purely oracle purposes - just haven't quite figured out how to phrase this yet.

I then asked for two cards which would help/hinder me with this future goal:

Help: child: Nature - Light attributes: friendships with animals. communication with nature spirits. shadow attributes: tendency to abuse animals, people and the environments.

My interpretation: animals are coming to me thick and fast at the moment - and I'm starting to get better at understanding their messages. also, we are in the process of doing some voluntary work for a rescue organisation - and I'm beginning to work with the froud fairy cards which I love - nature spirits. this card validates that the instincts I've been following are correct - thank goodness!

Hindrance: Vampire - Ligh attribute: Makes you aware that someone or something is draining your life force. shadow attributes: depleting others for your psychic survival. chronic somplaining and co-dependency.

My interpretation: apart from a chronic addiction to old Buffy the Vampire reruns (!) elements of both the light and dark ring true. My relationship with my husband - though solid and loving - can be very co-dependent at times - for both of us. and we've noticed that our moods effect each other in a matter of seconds. It's something that we definitely need to work on - so this is a push in the right direction.

Hope I haven't bored you too much - just thought I'd illustrate how useful I found these cards to use in this way. I believe firmly that anything can be used for divinitory purposes - it doesn't have to be specifically tarot. If you find answers in the clouds - develop that skill; if, like my husband, the pictures are in the flames of the firepit - practise with that. Some people will see answers in works of art hanging in a gallery - perfect! Just take notice of the signs and symbols around you - and use whatever rings true.

Absolutely, you hit the nail on the head there!
All these things are just triggers or tools to bring forth clairvoyance, in time we don't actually need them anymore. I find now I get best results with no tools at all, but I still offer them in readings as some people like them to be used.

As for these cards, I haven't seen them yet but they sound like a great deck to get the psychic mind fired up!

Hi ra-chi

thanks for your comments.

the pictures on the cards are great (just wish they didn't have the writing on them too) as I find I get distracted with the written messages.

I still use "props" as it were - I think they help me get into the right meditative state to do the readings - just as if I stared at a candle flame for instance. However, I'm confident that once I get practiced enough at meditation - I'll be able to do the readings without. Though, I do sometimes do readings jus by writing down what comes into my head - a bit like automatic writing I suppose - though it's definitely my writing.

My favourite thing at the moment, is to get people to do their own readings. they choose the cards - and I ask them questions - ie what is taht figure in the piciture thinking? why is the card that colour? why are they looking in that direction? why are they holding a cat? etc etc. eventually there is always a wow moment when the peep realises they are doing an actual reading rather than just describing the card! I think it helps with confidence building.

Take care bye1.gif

*love* that September - it's so empowering for the clients you are working with (and it's really helped me too, to think of interpreting cards more myself; might tempt me to pick up my tarot again and have a go - thanks!)

Hi rae - glad you liked the post. I'm full of tarot tips! I adore tarot cards but also love divination/oracle cards of all kinds. I think its knowing how much time and effort - not to mention love - the authors have put into them (well the majority anyway - there are a few out there that are more a product of their publishers rather than them).

I'm experimenting at the moment with some friends on a new way to teach tarot - well not really new - just an advancement of the old tarot dictionary technique. I'll post that up as well soon - just in case it's useful to anyone.
